Made under the guidance of Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, the blend is 1/3rd Stardance Vineyard which is Biodynamically farmed with Pommard clone planted on its own root stock in 2001. It’s a risky proposition but the fruit is incredible. Peavine soil incorporates loess volcanic soils moving towards Jory complex soils. It’s within the Coastal Range/Yamhill AVA and is the latest to be picked of all the estate farmed vineyards. Another 3rd is from the Tresori Vineyard. The Tresori Vineyard is located on the slopes of Chehalem Ridge (Chehalem Mountains AVA) in primarily volcanic, Jory, Nekkia and Willakenzie soils. It’s a blend of clones (113, 114, 115, 667 and 777) which showcases the complexity of the vineyard. The last piece of the puzzle comes from the Soujourner Vineyard which is also in the Eola-Amity Hill AVA. This vineyard are primarily silty loam volcanic soils with some gravel featuring Dijon clones. The wine is aged 1/3rd new French Oak barrel, 1/3rd 2 years old barrel and 1/3rd in 3 years old barrel.

Whereas the 2015 was more explosive the 2016 is more classic and elegant. Aromas of perfectly ripe, fresh wild cherry and berry fruit laced with a hint of earth and vanilla leap from the glass. In the mouth, it is silky smooth with a medium bodied but rich texture enveloping the palate with fresh red and black fruit flavors. It expresses more minerality and freshness than the 2015 vintage. It gives a sense of elegance and finesse with an enduring finish of fruit, flowers and an ethereal hint of spice. It’s a very sexy wine.

Only 75 cases produced.

Fil [fil] is French for thread.  It signifies the connection between my love of Pinot Noir from the New and Old World.  It also alludes to the thread between American soil and a French winemaker's touch.  Some may pronouce the word as 'feel'.  I hope this wine elicits feelings and a sense of place.  May you find your thread not only in wine, but in life.
