Our "Black Walnut" parcel is 0.96 acres composed entirely of red basalt alterite, giving the resulting wine a sweet and round personality. At first glance, the soil in this site nearly fooled us as red top soil, but closer examination revealed 100 percent oxidized volcanic rock—eroded to such a degree that it is just on the cusp of becoming soil. The wine is a cheerful companion, each sip offering a bounty of fresh red berries and cherries.
